Although I made a promise to myself that I wasn't going to get into PC games (for fear of my free time being consumed by it), I have inevitably failed.
I have always thought that in order to play PC games, I needed a lot of money (to afford a gaming PC). I did not know that with a bit of effort & smart selections, that I could either build an affordable gaming PC or simply upgrade an existing one.
I had a Lenovo m93 ThinkCentre desktop sitting around, so I decided to upgrade this PC to be a decent gaming platform. The specs are as follows:
Lenovo M93 ThinkCentre
16GB DDR3 RAM
512 GB SSD
Intel i7-4770 @ 3.4 GHz
Radeon RX 6400 GPU
The Lenovo was refurbished, and it is still on Amazon at a ridiculous price of $100. Given that the RAM (though outdated at DDR3) is at 16GB, and the Intel i7 is not *terrible, the only addition to this PC was the RX6400.
I chose this GPU simply due to the small form factor, and it turned out to be a perfect addition to the rest of the PC. I'm able to get a stable 30FPS in CS2, whereas I'm pulling around 144FPS in Valorant.
I will make a separate post about my experiences in playing FPS on PC for the first time. But dang.. this may be the start of a PC gaming hobby that may last for the rest of my life.
